Poreč

Poreč/Parenzo is a town and municipality on the western coast of the Istrian peninsula, in Istria County, Croatia. It’s more than 2000 years old town with harbour protected by small island of St. Nicholas. Poreč is a popular summer resort on the coast of Istria. In the historic old town, the 6th-century Euphrasian Basilica complex is famous for its gem-studded Byzantine mosaics.

The Euphrasian Basilica is the episcopal complex, including, apart the basilica itself, a sacristy, a baptistery and the bell tower of the nearby archbishop's palace. It is one of the best examples of early Byzantine architecture in the Mediterranean region.  The basilica was built in the 6th century. Because of its exceptional value, it has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1997.
