Tour of Croatia has once again provided a hectic and chaotic sprinter’s final. Giacomo Nizzolo (Trek-Segafredo), the Italian sprinter, got to his second win of the season.
Nizzolo so far won 2 out of 3 duels in Tour of Croatia against Mark Cavendish, and today was the most demanding one, ridden 190 km from Makarska to Šibenik. The Italian simply enjoyed the better support from his team. In a final chase for the leading group Mark’s Team Dimension Data got too exhausted. Nizzolo’s group managed to position itself a bit better during the final ascent in a two-lap ending in Šibenik city centre, thus make the better final in which Cavendish finished fourth. Timothy Dupont, a Belgian sprinter from Veranda’s Willems Cycling finished second, which was his second podium of the season after the 3rd place in Varaždin 2 days earlier. The Italian Matteo Pelucchi (IAM Cycling) ended up 3rd right in front of Cavendish. Nizzolo’s time from stage 3 was 4hours, 35 minutes and 42 seconds.
